The longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall between Ostbahnhof and Oberbaumbr\u00fccke has become world famous as the East Side Gallery. After the fall of the Wall, 118 artists from 21 countries designed the longest open-air gallery in the world along 1.3 kilometers of the former border element. The East Side Gallery stands both as a symbol of joy over the end of Germany\u2019s division and as a historical reminder of the inhumanity of the GDR border regime. It is one of the most visited tourist spots in the capital today.<\/p>\n\n
VISIT TO THE MEMORIAL \n \nThe visitor center at Bernauer Strasse 119 forms the starting point of the visit with an introductory film, bookshop, seminar and event rooms. The permanent exhibition in the memorial area outside offers a site-specific history of the construction of the Wall and the GDR border regime.<\/p>\n\n
